This thing is supposed to be for homework only but my son has figured out how to play games on it and every afternoon it's a battle to get him off. The school has some controls on it but apparently not enough. I don't want to be the bad guy taking it away entirely but the screen time is getting out of hand. Anyone dealing with this at your school?
Man, I feel this. My kid figured out all the workarounds too. We ended up setting pretty strict time limits and honestly just accepting some battles aren't worth winning every day. Maybe set specific homework times and then it's just off limits after?

Third grade is rough because they're old enough to problem solve but not old enough to understand digital wellness. Have you tried setting screen time limits directly through your home wifi router? That way it doesn't matter what he figures out on the device itself.

I had to set up actual parental controls through the school district's admin panel - you might want to reach out to the IT department and ask what filtering options they have enabled. Spoiler alert: most schools can lock down way more than they do by default.

Yeah the chromebook thing is tough because it's supposed to be educational but they're basically handing them a gaming device. We've had better luck with physical consequences like no screen time the next day rather than fighting about it in the moment.
