Daughter just spent 3 hours watching YouTube shorts. I set limits but she keeps finding ways around them. Tried talking to her about it but she says all her friends watch way more. How do you handle this without being the bad guy? We're using Apple Screen Time but honestly it feels like she's always one step ahead of me.
Been there. Three hours is rough. I found that giving my daughter like one specific time block where she can watch whatever actually worked better than constant limits, because at least then she wasn't trying to sneak it the rest of the day. Might be worth a shot.
The 'she says' part got cut off but I'm guessing she's got her reasons. My experience is when they're finding ways around the rules, they're usually trying to tell you something about what they actually need. Might be boredom, might be social stuff with friends. Worth digging into that part.

Yeah man, the workaround thing is real. My kid figured out how to use her friend's tablet to bypass my parental controls. I had to stop treating it like a tech problem and more like a trust thing - we sat down and I asked her what she actually needed from the shorts instead of just shutting it down. Helped a bit.
