Set up parental controls and my kid hates me

I finally installed the Apple screen time controls on my 11 year olds phone. Limits apps to 1 hour a day, no YouTube after 8pm, stuff like that. He's been giving me the silent treatment for 3 days. His mom thinks I'm too strict. But I've seen what happens when kids have unlimited access and it's not pretty. Am I supposed to just let him doom scroll until midnight? I feel like I'm the only one taking this seriously but my wife makes me second guess myself constantly.

Oh man, I feel this in my soul. My 11 year old also acted like I'd taken away her firstborn when I set limits. But after a few weeks she actually seems happier and spends more time reading. Stick with it.
The hate phase passes, I promise. My daughter gave me the silent treatment for a solid two weeks when I locked down her phone. Now she's actually better at conversations. Totally worth the temporary hatred.
