Should I let my teenager have TikTok?

My 13yo is literally the only kid in her friend group without it apparently. She's been begging for months. I'm worried about the algorithm, weird content, and honestly just don't understand the app at all. Her mom thinks it's fine as long as we monitor it. Part of me wants to just let her but I've read some pretty scary stuff. How are other parents handling this? Is there a way to use it safely or should I just say no?

The algorithm stuff keeps me up at night too honestly. We ended up letting our kids have it but with parental controls on and pretty strict monitoring. You can't completely shield them from what their peers are into, but you can stay involved.
