He's been asking to join Discord so he can voice chat with his friends while playing Minecraft. I've heard Discord can be sketchy but also seems like where all the kids are hanging out now. What's the real risk here? Should I let him do it with parental controls or am I overprotective?
12 feels about right honestly. I'd say get him on it but set some ground rules first - like who he can talk to and checking in on how it's going. My older one uses it and seems fine with boundaries.

12 is probably fine for Discord if he's responsible, but the real question is who is he gaming with? Are they kids from school or random people online? I'd want to know that before saying yes. You can also disable DMs and monitor it pretty closely.
