Son won't put down his Switch, help

My 8 year old has been glued to his Switch for like 3 hours straight today. I set a timer for 1 hour but he just keeps asking for 5 more minutes and I cave. Anyone else dealing with this? How do you actually enforce screen time limits without becoming the bad guy?

3 hours straight is definitely a problem. That's not about the Switch being bad, that's about the boundaries. You set a timer, he ignored it. That's the real issue to address. Does he push back every time or just today?

My rule with the Switch is once it comes out, it doesn't go back in until bedtime. So if he's gonna use it, he commits to the whole day running. Makes him think twice about starting.

Been there. The thing that worked for us was making screen time something he earns, not something he just gets. Now my 8yo budgets his own time because he knows if he blows through it today there's nothing tomorrow.
