The TikTok obsession is out of control
So my 14yo has gone full TikTok addict. She's on it constantly, and now she's trying to become a "content creator" which basically means filming herself lip syncing for 6 hours a day. I've set screen time limits but she just works around them. I'm worried about the algorithm stuff, the comparison trap, body image issues - all of it. But she also feels like this is her social life now and if I cut it off completely we're heading toward a big fight. I'm genuinely lost on how to handle this without being the bad guy who ruins everything for her.
14 is such a vulnerable age for this stuff. Have you tried sitting down and watching some of her TikToks WITH her? Sometimes understanding what she finds funny helps open dialogue instead of just shutting it down.
The algorithm is literally designed by engineers to be addictive. It's not a character flaw on her part, the app wants her attention. Maybe frame it that way instead of blaming her for the obsession.
