Thinking about getting my 4yo an iPad

Long car trips are brutal with my 4 year old. Hes been asking about using my phone to watch cartoons but obviously I dont want to just hand him my device all the time. Is an iPad with parental controls and educational apps actually a decent solution? My parents think im crazy for even considering it but I feel like every other parent is doing this now. What are the best apps for his age?

We did the iPad thing for road trips and honestly it's fine. Just set limits before you start. We do 30 minutes max and then it's done for that drive. Kids adjust if you set the boundary from the start.

I get the appeal but start with something else first. Audiobooks, sing-alongs, snack breaks. iPads are great for emergencies but they can become a habit fast and then you're stuck.

Before you go full iPad, try Travel games, window seat, promise of a toy if he makes it to the next rest stop. 4 year olds can be bribed pretty easily. Save the screen for when you're actually desperate.
