Trying to find the balance between letting my daughter stay connected with friends and not having her glued to her phone 24/7. She's 13. Right now she has Instagram and TikTok but I've got some basic parental monitoring set up. Curious what other dads are doing. Also wondering if I'm being too strict or not strict enough.
I'm probably more restrictive than most but we stick with iMessage for texts between her and close friends. Everything else feels like a rabbit hole. Probably will feel like a caveman parent in a few years but so far so good.
Snapchat and Instagram are the big ones my 13 year old wanted. I let her have them but with my account as the follower so I can see what's going on. Not spying, just staying informed. She hates it but also respects it.
This is the constant struggle right now. My daughter is only 6 months old but I'm already thinking about this. What apps are you guys comfortable with?

We do Discord for my oldest to talk to his friends but only with parental controls on. For my younger one it's mostly just educational stuff like Duolingo. The key is knowing what they're actually doing in those apps.
