He wants to play with his friends after school and we decided it was ok if he had proper equipment. Looking at some options but there are so many brands. Needs good mic quality since hes learning to communicate with teammates, not just mute everyone. Budget around 50-80 bucks. What have you guys had good luck with?
My boys are around that age too and I learned the hard way that mid-range is the way to go, not the super expensive stuff. HyperX Cloud Stinger or Corsair HS35 are solid choices and won't break the bank if he accidentally breaks it.
Nice parenting move here. With four kids gaming, I've found that comfort matters most since he'll be wearing it for hours. Read reviews specifically about how they fit kids with smaller heads, makes a difference.
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 has been solid for my 12yo. Good balance between quality and price, and it's held up pretty well with kid usage which is saying something.
Make sure whatever you get has a good mute button and volume limiter. Eleven year olds don't always remember to keep it reasonable and you don't want to blow out his hearing.
Just make sure you set ground rules about when he's using it before you buy it. Equipment is great but screen time limits matter too.

Good call letting him have the gear if he's playing with friends. I went with a SteelSeries Arctis 1 for my oldest and it's held up great, not too pricey either. The wireless ones are nice so he's not tethered to his desk.
