My kids want to play together online with some cousins and they need headsets. I don't want to spend a fortune but I also don't want some cheap junk. Anyone have suggestions that aren't too big for kid sized heads? And please tell me they have volume limits built in because I'm not trying to damage their hearing.
I went with some basic SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1s for my kids around that age. They're durable enough to survive the abuse, decent sound quality, and won't break the bank if they get damaged. Got them on sale for like $60 each.
This is tough because you don't want cheap junk but also kids destroy everything. What's your budget? That'll help narrow it down. Also make sure whatever you get has volume limiters for hearing protection.
Just a heads up - make sure whatever you get has a volume limiter. My 7yo cranked his headset to full volume and I nearly had a heart attack. The last thing you need is hearing damage on top of the screen time worry.
Check out the JBL Jr series. My cousin swears by them for his kids and they come in fun colors. Plus they fold up small which is great for travel when the cousins visit.
HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 Kids. Specifically made for younger gamers, max volume is limited to 85db, and they're pretty affordable. We got a set for my oldest and the build quality is solid.

I just went through this. Ended up with some HyperX headsets for my kids. They're durable enough to survive being thrown around and the sound quality is solid without being crazy expensive. Maybe in the 40-60 range?
SteelSeries makes some decent kids headsets that aren't terrible quality. And honestly the cheaper option might be better since he's only 7 - kids break stuff at that age and you don't want to be out a ton of money when it happens.
