He's 10 and asking for a phone like all his friends have. I'm not against it but I want to wait a little longer. Wife thinks I'm being overprotective. What age did you guys give your kids phones and did you regret it? I'm thinking 12 at the earliest but want to hear from other parents about what's realistic these days.
You're not being overprotective, you're being thoughtful. We've got three kids at different ages and the phone question hits different for each of them. Maybe the compromise is waiting until 11 or 12 but setting clear expectations now?
This is a tough one man. My kids are younger but I've seen the soccer parents deal with this. I'd say trust your instinct on the timing but maybe sit down with the wife and figure out what the actual rules would be if he does get one.
