WINS: My kid quit Fortnite by himself

Okay this is probably random but I'm celebrating because my 12yo came to me last week and said he wanted to stop playing Fortnite because "all the cool stuff costs money and I'm tired of feeling left out." LIKE... a kid actually came to that realization himself? He still games but plays Minecraft and some other stuff instead. I literally did nothing different, he just got tired of the predatory monetization. Maybe kids are smarter about this stuff than we think? Idk. Felt like a parenting win so I'm posting it lol

This is the actual parenting W right here. Not forcing it, just him recognizing it sucked him in financially and deciding it wasn't worth it. I'm stealing this energy for when my son gets old enough to care about skins.

That's actually incredible. Most kids don't make that connection themselves - they usually just blame the game or their friends. The fact that he NOTICED the money stuff and decided to quit? That's like peak emotional intelligence for a 12yo. You should be proud.

Okay this gives me hope. My 11yo is already obsessed with skins and cosmetics and I was dreading the next 5 years. So you just... let him keep playing and he realized himself?

Real question though - is Minecraft actually better or just because it's what he switched to? Like did he genuinely find it more fun or did Fortnite just not hold his attention once he quit?

The Minecraft pivot is smart because it scratches the building/creating itch without the FOMO mechanics. Fortnite literally designs the shop to make you feel left out. Smart kid for noticing that.
