Worth getting parental controls?

My 9 year old is getting her first tablet soon. I've been looking at Apple Screen Time and some third party apps. Do you guys use parental controls? Trying to balance protecting her but not being the overbearing parent who checks everything. What actually works and isn't just going to make her figure out how to bypass it?
