YouTube Kids got sketchier in the last 6 months
Has anyone else noticed more weird stuff making it through YouTube Kids' filters? Used to feel pretty safe but last month my 4yo managed to watch like 5 minutes of some bizarre channel before I caught it. The ""educational"" label was on it but it was basically just a guy yelling. Google's moderation system is obviously not keeping up. We mostly use Puffin Rock now which feels better curated, but wanted to see if others are dealing with this too.
Honestly I switched to just letting mine watch Netflix Kids or specific channels I vet first. YouTube's whole recommendation system is built to maximize watch time, not safety. Not worth the mental energy of constant monitoring.
5 minutes is actually pretty good catch. Some parents don't realize until way later. The weird channels specifically target kids because they know the parents aren't watching as closely. What was the channel about?
