Does anyone else think YouTube Kids is full of garbage? I let my 6yo watch for 20 mins while making dinner and he somehow got recommended videos of people opening toy boxes for like 10 minutes straight. The algorithm seems broken. We switched to Disney Plus and Netflix kids sections which seem better curated. Anyone found actually good apps for that age or am I stuck playing gatekeeper forever?
With four kids I've basically given up on YouTube Kids auto play. We download specific shows or stick to apps that don't have weird rabbit holes, saves the stress.
Yeah that app is hit or miss, honestly we just supervise the 20 minutes instead of relying on it to be kid-safe. A little extra attention beats finding weird stuff in the recommended list.
It's the recommendation algorithm that kills me. My 6yo watched one video and suddenly everything is weird animated toy reviews or something. I just use the PBS Kids app instead.
I feel you. We set a timer and my kids know when it goes off that's it, but honestly I'd rather just not use it. There's so much better stuff out there that actually teaches something.
Yeah YouTube Kids is basically just algorithmic babysitting at this point. I switched to a combo of Netflix kids content and actual books. Takes more effort but at least I know what he's watching.

YouTube Kids algorithm is rough, I've definitely had those moments. We ended up going with a curated playlist approach instead of letting it auto play, way more control that way.
