Daughter asking tough questions about faith that I don't have answers for

My 16yo daughter asked me last week why God would allow suffering if He loves us, specifically bringing up her best friend whose dad has cancer. I gave her the standard theological answers but she could tell I was reciting stuff instead of actually engaging with the question. I want to be a spiritual leader in my home but also be honest about the limits of my understanding. Anyone have experience walking through real doubts WITH your kids instead of just giving them answers?

This one's beyond a quick dad answer. Have you thought about having that conversation with someone from your faith community? Not to dodge it, but sometimes a pastor or counselor can help frame those big questions better than we can alone.
I'd be honest that you don't have all the answers. Kids respect that way more than a canned response. Tell her it's something you wrestle with too and you can work through it together.
