How do I explain sin to my 7 year old without crushing her spirit?

My daughter asked me the other day why we need Jesus and it spiraled into questions about sin and whether she's going to hell. She got really worried about it and I could tell I wasn't explaining it right. I want her to understand why we believe what we believe but not terrify her or make her feel shame about being a kid. How do you guys approach this with younger kids?

I'd dial it back on the hell talk for sure. At seven she just needs to know she's good, loved, and that everyone makes mistakes. The deeper theological stuff can wait a few more years when she's ready for it.

First time dad here, but I've been thinking about this stuff too. Maybe frame sin as just the times we mess up or make bad choices, and Jesus is there to help us do better next time. Keeps it positive without the heavy stuff that's gonna keep her up at night.

Man, that's a tough one at seven. I'd keep it simple and focus on the love part more than the sin part - like, Jesus loves you so much that he's there to help you be your best self. Kids that age don't need to be worried about hell, they just need to know they're loved.
