How do I explain why we go to church when my kids just complain?

My 8 and 11 year old have started asking why we have to go to church every Sunday when their friends get to sleep in or play. I want them to understand faith is important but I'm struggling to explain it in a way that clicks for them. Anyone else dealt with this? I don't want to just say 'because I said so' but I also feel like I'm failing at leading by example if I can't articulate why this matters to me.

This is tough because church shouldn't feel like something you're forcing them to do. What if you had a conversation about what church actually means to your family instead of just the rule of it? My kids were the same way until I explained it in a way that made sense to them.

You could try giving them something to do during service that keeps them engaged. Coloring books, puzzle books, something to take notes on. Sometimes the issue isn't church itself it's that they're bored sitting still for an hour. Make it less painful and they might complain less.

I get it but sometimes you have to set boundaries on what your family does together. We go to church because it matters to us and that's enough of a reason. They don't have to love it yet but as they get older and understand more it clicks. Hang in there.
