How do you handle secular influences when you're trying to raise them with Christian values?
Our kids go to public school and I'm always thinking about the messages they're getting that conflict with what we're teaching at home. We're not super strict about it but we're intentional about what shows and movies come into the house. My wife and I try to talk through things with them instead of just shutting stuff down completely. My question is, are we doing enough? What do other dads do to help their kids navigate the world without totally isolating them from it? I want them to understand our faith is stronger than worldly pressures, not just hide from those pressures.
The fishing trips have been huge for us in this area. Something about being out on the water puts kids in a reflective mood and the conversations just happen naturally. That's when my son opens up about what he's thinking.
