How do you handle your kids watching non-Christian shows?

Looking for some real talk here. My wife and I have been pretty strict about media but our 10 year old is the only kid in his friend group not allowed to watch certain shows and it's creating tension. We want to raise him with Christian values but also don't want him to feel like an outcast. What's your approach? Are you super strict or do you let some things slide and just have conversations about it?

This is something my wife and I are navigating right now too. What shows specifically are you worried about? Sometimes it helps to actually watch an episode yourself to see what the fuss is.

We've loosened up a bit as ours got older. 10 is that tricky age where they're starting to see what friends are watching. We do watch together sometimes now so we can talk about it instead of just saying no to everything.

Real talk - we had to pick our battles. Some stuff we said no to, but we also realized we needed to trust our kids and teach them discernment rather than just ban everything. That said, we definitely still say no to plenty.
