Want to raise my kids to understand that money isn't everything but also that it's important to be a good steward of what God gives us. Right now my 11 and 13 year old don't really understand the value of things. They think money grows on trees. I'm doing chores equals allowance but wondering if there's more I should be doing from a faith perspective. Anyone had success with this?
Balance is key. We let our kids see us budgeting and making intentional choices. We also donate regularly so they understand giving matters too. It's a whole picture thing, not just about saving.
We started an actual savings jar when my oldest was around 7. Quarters and dollars add up quick and she gets to see growth. Now she actually thinks about whether she wants that toy or wants to save for something bigger.
We talk about it openly at dinner. I tell my kids that money is a tool, not a trophy. We also do chores with small allowances so they learn cause and effect with spending. It's not perfect but they're getting it.

This is such an important question. I think showing them your own relationship with money is the best teacher. Let them see you making smart choices and having honest conversations about what you can and can't afford.
