How much screen time do your kids get?

We're trying to figure out reasonable limits. My wife thinks I'm too strict but I see how my oldest acts when he's had too much gaming. He's moody and won't engage with the family. Feels like we're swimming upstream against the culture though because literally every other kid has unlimited access. Would love to hear what boundaries other families have set and how you enforce them without being the bad guy all the time.

Two words: outdoor time. My kids barely notice screens when they're outside actually doing something. Maybe that's the compromise you need with your wife? Less strict limits if screen time is replaced with activities?

Your wife might have a point though. Being too restrictive can backfire when they go to friends houses and binge everything. I had a friend whose dad banned all screens and he went nuts with it in high school.

We do about an hour on school days and maybe 2-3 hours on weekends. My wife wanted zero limits but I pointed out our 8 year old was getting headaches from too much tablet time. Now we're in a better place. What's your oldest doing that concerns you?

Age matters a lot here. How old is your oldest? That would help me understand where you're both coming from. My 6 year old gets way less than my 14 year old obviously.

Honestly the screen time thing is tough because so much homework is on devices now. Can't really separate educational screen time from the junk they want to watch. We try to be reasonable about it but some days it feels impossible.
