Kids asking hard questions about faith

My 10 year old asked me why God lets bad things happen to good people and I honestly froze. I gave him some basic answer about free will but I could tell he wasn't satisfied. These are the moments where I wish I had better answers. We go to church every Sunday and he knows the basics but he's starting to think deeper about it. How do you guys handle these conversations? I don't want to just dismiss his questions or give him Sunday school answers. He deserves real talk but I also want to keep his faith strong.

Those questions are hard to navigate man. I think as long as you're engaging with him instead of shutting it down, you're doing the right thing even if your answer wasn't perfect.
