My 7yo is asking tough questions about suffering

After his friend's dad got cancer, my son started asking why God lets bad things happen. I didn't have great answers and kind of dodged the conversation which I regret. How have you guys handled deep faith questions from your kids? I want to be honest without crushing his faith or making him feel like doubts are bad. Would love to hear what's worked for you because I know this won't be the last time he asks hard stuff.

I'd say just be honest with him. Kids pick up on when we're dodging, but they also respect when we say 'I don't know either but here's what I believe.' That might matter more than having all the right answers.

Those are really hard questions and you're not alone in struggling with them. Honestly, sometimes sitting with the mystery is okay to admit to your kid instead of forcing an answer.
