My 8yo just asked me if God would forgive him for lying
We've been reading a Bible story about David and Bathsheba and he got quiet and asked if God would forgive him because he lied to his mom about brushing his teeth last week. My heart just broke and healed at the same time. We talked about confession and repentance and how God's grace covers us when we genuinely turn away from sin. He actually went and told his mom without being forced. Feeling grateful that the Holy Spirit works through these kids.
That's such a profound question for an 8yo to ask. The fact that he's already thinking about forgiveness and guilt shows he's got a good conscience. I'd lean into that moment and have a real conversation about it. Sounds like reading those Bible stories is actually working if he's connecting it to his own life like that.
God absolutely forgives him. That's the whole point of David's story too right? The redemption part, not just the sin part. Your kid asking this question shows he's got the Holy Spirit working in his heart already. You're doing something right.
