My daughter asked me tough questions about faith

Yesterday my 11 year old asked me why God lets bad things happen if hes so powerful. I didnt have a perfect answer ready and it humbled me. Realized I need to study scripture more so I can actually answer her questions instead of just saying trust God. Been spending more time in the Word this week and its actually strengthening my own faith too. Anyone else have kids that challenge them spiritually?

This one's tough because there's no perfect answer that a kid will totally understand. I think the best you can do is just be honest that you don't have all the answers either and that faith is about trusting even when things don't make sense. Did you end up having more conversations about it?

Oh man, the 11 year old faith questions are the hardest ones. I got something similar from my daughter and I basically just told her that God gives us the freedom to make choices and sometimes people make bad ones, but He's there to help us through it. Not sure if that fully satisfied her but it started a good conversation.

My son asked me something similar last year and I learned pretty quick that kids just want to know you're real with them, not that you have all the theology figured out. The fact that you're even thinking about how to answer this the right way puts you ahead of a lot of dads.
