My daughter wants to quit youth group and I'm sad about it

She says the kids aren't her vibe and she'd rather do volleyball. I know I can't force her to go but man this is hard. We've been going to church as a family her whole life and she's pulling away. She's 16 so I get it but I'm worried about her spiritual foundation right now. Trying not to be controlling but also want her to stay connected to her faith. Anyone dealt with teenagers distancing from church?

Let her quit. She'll probably come back to it later when she's older. Teenagers need to feel like their choices matter.

This is tough man. She's finding her own identity though and that's not a bad thing. Volleyball might be her thing right now but faith can exist outside of youth group.

I get the sadness but forcing it would probably backfire. My sister was forced to keep going to church stuff as a teen and now as an adult she wants nothing to do with it.

The volleyball comment stings but at least she's being honest about what she wants. That takes guts at her age.

Maybe there's a middle ground? Like she takes a break from youth group for the volleyball season and you revisit it after? Shows you're listening but doesn't completely drop the faith side.
