Starting family devotions and looking for resources

Want to start reading the Bible together as a family but not sure where to begin. My kids are 8, 10, and 13 so pretty different ages in terms of understanding. There's so many devotional books out there I don't even know what's actually good. We go to church but I feel like I should be doing more to help them develop their own faith instead of just relying on Sunday school. Has anyone found resources that work for mixed age groups?

This is awesome you're doing this. Honest question though - how do you handle it when they ask questions you don't have answers for? I want to start something similar but I'm worried about looking like I don't know my stuff.

I started with The Jesus Storybook Bible for my kids around that age and it was perfect. Short stories, great illustrations, and it keeps their attention way better than straight Bible reading. My 10 year old still asks for it sometimes.

My 10 year old and I have been doing YouVersion Bible app together - they have plans specifically for families with different age ranges. Some nights we just read a few verses and talk about what they mean. Keeps it short enough that nobody loses interest.

We started with The Jesus Storybook Bible a couple years ago and my kids loved it. The illustrations are beautiful and it's written in a way that makes sense to them without being preachy. Read it at breakfast mostly since that's the only time I can get everyone in one place.

We do a similar thing but honestly the kids respond better when we make it interactive. Ask them questions about what they heard instead of just reading at them. Makes them actually think about it.

Praying with my kids before bed has been game-changing for us. Even just 5 minutes of devotion time feels better than trying to sit everyone down for a long session. Kids that age have short attention spans.
