Struggling to model patience when my kids test me
Guys I need real talk. I'm trying to raise my kids with Christian values but man when they're arguing over toys or talking back I lose it so fast. I yell instead of staying calm. How do you guys actually live out patience in the moment? I pray about it but feel like I'm failing them by not being the example I should be. Any dads dealt with this and found a way through it?
Oh man, this is tough. I struggle with the same thing. I want to teach them right from wrong but when they're pushing every button you have it's hard to stay calm. What's helped me is stepping back for like 30 seconds before I respond when I feel myself getting heated. Just a quick breather changes everything.
Real talk back at you - I'm not a Christian but I respect what you're trying to do. The fact that you're even aware of this gap between what you want to model and how you're actually reacting means you can work on it. That awareness is huge.
