Signed up to take my two oldest to help rebuild in an area that got hit hard by flooding. I'm hoping this will open their eyes to how blessed we are and also show them what it looks like to serve others in Jesus name. I'm nervous about it honestly but excited too. Anyone have experience doing mission trips with their kids? What should I expect?
This is going to be incredible for your kids. A mission trip at that age really sticks with them in ways regular vacations don't. My oldest came back from one when he was 11 and talked about it for literally years.
How long is the trip? We did one for two weeks with our boys and it was exhausting but totally worth it. They saw actual need and it gave them perspective that they wouldn't get any other way.
That's amazing dude. Where are you heading? We're thinking about doing something similar next summer but still figuring out logistics with work and all that.
Make sure you prep them beforehand about what they're going to see. Our first time we didn't explain things well enough and one of our boys got overwhelmed. Still worth it but a little context would have helped.
This sounds like an unforgettable experience. Your boys are lucky to have a dad who's willing to invest that kind of time and energy into showing them what service actually looks like.

I love this. My kids went on their first mission trip at 10 and 12 and it genuinely changed how they think about things. They're more grateful and actually want to help out more around the house now too.
