Teaching generosity and giving to kids

Trying to instill biblical values about generosity and contentment but my kids see other kids with more stuff and want more. We give them a small allowance and try to teach them to give some away, volunteer as a family, that kind of thing. But it feels like the world is constantly working against these lessons. How do you keep pushing these values without being preachy?

Don't forget to model it yourself. They see what you do more than what you say. We do a giving jar and every month the kids help pick where it goes. They take ownership of the generosity that way.

This is really hard. We've been big on volunteering as a family, like at the food bank. Kids see real need and it shifts their perspective pretty fast. Way more impactful than just talking about generosity.

The comparison thing is brutal at that age. We started talking about needs vs wants and actually let our kids see where money goes in our house. Not in a scary way, just honest about budgets. Helped them understand that other families have different resources, not that they're missing out.
