Teaching Generosity to Kids in a Materialistic World
We started having our kids pick out toys they don't play with anymore to donate to the less fortunate kids at church. At first they were resistant but my daughter actually got excited about it. She said she wanted to help kids who don't have toys to play with. We prayed together about it and took them to the distribution. Watching her face light up when she realized her toys would make other kids happy hit different. This is what it means to raise them with the character of Christ. They're learning that abundance means sharing and that generosity brings more joy than possessions ever could.
That's awesome they came around on it. My kids were the same way at first, but once they saw the other kids' faces light up, it totally clicked for them. You're planting seeds that'll stick with them.
