Teaching kids about money and generosity without making it awkward

We're trying to raise our kids (9, 12, 14) to be generous and understand that God provides. We have them tithe 10% of their allowance and we talk about giving to others. But I feel like sometimes it comes across preachy. My oldest is starting to see through what feels like a lesson and is less receptive. How do you guys model generosity without making it feel like an obligation? Looking for ways to show them through actions rather than words.

The fact that you're tying this to faith makes sense and adds depth to it. I think kids get it better when they see you living it out in your own life, not just talking about it.

This is a great age range to start having these conversations. I do an allowance system where my kids earn money and then we talk about giving some away. It makes the lesson real instead of abstract.

At those ages they're starting to understand consequences and choices so you can really dig into the why behind generosity. We volunteer as a family once a month and that's been huge for teaching this without it feeling forced.

We've been doing something similar and I think the key is letting them make choices. Give them money for a cause they actually care about rather than just telling them to give. Makes it meaningful.
