Teaching kids to tithe and give generously

Been thinking about how to introduce my kids to the concept of giving back and tithing since they're getting old enough to understand money. My oldest is 9 and just started doing chores for an allowance. I want to make it natural for him to want to give, not forced or legalistic you know? Anyone have experience with this? How did your parents teach you about generosity or how are you teaching your kids?

Teaching kids about giving at a young age sets them up for understanding generosity later. We started with our oldest putting a portion of birthday money toward local charities. It became a thing he actually looked forward to.

This is something I've been thinking about too. Want to make sure my kid understands that giving back is part of living a good life without it feeling forced or guilt-based. Finding that balance is tricky.

We started simple with our kids. A piggy bank split three ways: save, spend, give. Even at young ages they get the concept and it's become part of our family rhythm. Might be worth trying.
