Teaching my kids about giving when money is tight
We're not struggling but we're not wealthy either. My son asked why we give money to church when we need new shoes. Had to explain tithing and trusting God isn't about what makes sense on paper. We talked about how God provides and how we need to honor Him first. My daughter put extra from her allowance in the offering plate last Sunday without being asked. That's the Holy Spirit working right there.
My kids asked the same thing last year. I sat them down and explained that giving helps people who need it more than we do right now, and that someday when we're more stable, we can give even more. They actually got it. The church part is between you and your faith, but the principle of teaching generosity early is gold.
