Teaching my kids that Christianity isn't about looking good, it's about being good
Realized I was being a real pharisee. Always worried about what people at church thought of our family, made sure the kids looked perfect on Sundays, talked about our faith a lot. Meanwhile I was short tempered at home, hadn't really forgiven my brother in years, and gave to charity for recognition. My 8 year old called me out last week when I got angry about him lying when he was trying to protect his feelings. He said 'you're always telling us to be honest but you lied about why you didn't go to grandpa's funeral.' Gut punch but he was right. Now we're actually trying to live it out, not just look like we do.
Respect for recognizing that. A lot of dads never get there. The pharisee thing is sneaky because you can convince yourself you're doing it all right while your kids are watching you be fake to people.
