Teaching my kids to pray - where do I even start?

My 4 year old asked me why we pray before meals and honestly I fumbled the answer. I grew up Christian but kind of fell away in my 20s. Now that I have kids I want to bring faith back into our home but I don't want to be fake about it. How did you guys start teaching your young children about prayer and faith? I want to lead by example but I'm still working through my own stuff.

Man, I'm right there with you on fumbling it. My 4 year old asks me stuff all the time and I'm like 'uh, good question buddy.' Maybe just keep it simple - like you're talking to God about being thankful for food and family. Kids get that.

Coming back to faith as a parent is cool stuff. I'd say just be honest that you're figuring it out too - my kids respect that way more than when I pretend to have all the answers.
