Teaching my son about grace after he messed up big time
My 14 year old got caught lying to us about where he was last weekend. Initial reaction was pure anger but my wife and I took a step back and prayed about it. We sat down with him and instead of just punishing him, we talked about how God extends grace to us constantly and how we need to do the same for each other. We still set consequences but framed it around restoration not condemnation. He actually cried and apologized genuinely. Feels like maybe we're getting this parenting thing right sometimes.
Man, that's a tough spot but sounds like you handled it perfectly by taking that step back. I've had to do the same thing with my boys - anger in the moment never leads anywhere good, but grace and talking it out? That's when real growth happens.
