Trying to model humility and admitting when I'm wrong

Realized I was teaching my kids about forgiveness and grace while never apologizing to them when I messed up. Got angry at my son last week for something that wasn't his fault and he avoided me the rest of the day. Had to go to him, own my mistake, and ask his forgiveness. The look on his face changed. He forgave me immediately and even hugged me. Lesson learned. Our kids need to see us repenting and being humble, not just talking about it.

Humility is the hardest thing to teach because it has to come from us first. That conversation with your kids about grace while never apologizing was probably a bigger lesson than any sermon. Good on you for recognizing the gap.

You just described something that took me way too long to figure out. Kids respect the apology more than they respect the perfection. When you admit you were wrong they learn it's okay to make mistakes and fix them.

This one hits hard because we expect our kids to understand grace but we don't extend it to ourselves or them. Modeling accountability is actually way more powerful than pretending we're perfect.
