Walking the walk is harder than talking the talk

Got mad at my 6 year old yesterday for something stupid and yelled at him in a way I'm not proud of. Then he asked me why I get angry when I'm always telling him to be kind and patient. Hit me like a ton of bricks. How are you guys actually living out your values with your kids instead of just preaching at them? Need to do better.

Man, that hits hard because I'm just a few months in and already worried about stuff like this. The fact that you're aware of it and feeling bad shows you're doing better than you think - that's the real walk.

This is the stuff they don't warn you about as a new dad. We're all learning in real time - the fact that you're reflecting on it means you're already growing. Maybe that moment becomes a teaching opportunity if you talk to him about it.

Yeah bro, I catch myself doing the same thing and then feeling terrible after. Your son will remember that you apologized and fixed it way more than the yelling itself, at least that's what I'm hoping for my daughter.
