Walking the walk is harder than talking the walk

Had to apologize to my kids this week for losing my temper over something stupid. Asked for their forgiveness and explained that being a Christian dad means I have to keep working on myself too, that I'm not perfect and need Jesus every single day just like they do. My oldest said it made him feel better knowing I'm trying. Humility is a better teaching tool than perfection ever was. We're all on this journey together.

Takes guts to apologize to your kids like that. Honestly that probably teaches them more about being human than a lot of other stuff. Did they understand once you explained what happened?

This is the real work right here. My twins caught me in a frustrated moment last week and I had to do the same thing. It's humbling but I think they respect us more for it.

Modeling that kind of accountability is probably the best parenting you can do. Easy to tell kids to say sorry, harder to show them how.

Man that takes guts. I had to do the same thing last month after yelling about spilled juice. Asking for forgiveness from my kids actually made them respect me more, not less. How did they respond when you asked?
