Wife wants to homeschool, I'm nervous

So my wife brought up homeschooling and I'm torn. Part of me loves the idea of more control over what they're being taught spiritually and academically but I'm worried about whether we can actually pull it off. We'd need to be really intentional about finding community and making sure they're getting good socialization. Also not sure I trust myself to teach math lol. We're praying through it but wanted to ask if any of you have experience with this. What's been your biggest challenge and biggest blessing?

We've thought about it too. The control over curriculum makes sense but homeschooling is a huge time commitment. Is your wife planning to do it or is it you two splitting it?

I'd sit down and ask what her concerns are about traditional school first. Sometimes there's a specific issue driving this and you might be able to solve it without going full homeschool. Worth the conversation before you commit to something that big.

My concern would be less about control and more about whether you guys can handle it as a couple. Homeschooling puts a lot of pressure on the marriage. From a faith side it could be great, but make sure you're united on it first.

Being nervous is normal. Talk through the practical stuff with her. Who's teaching what? How does it work with your work schedule? What's the backup plan if it's not working after a year?

This is tough. My wife's mentioned it too and I'm genuinely split. I like that she'd get more time with the kids but I'm worried about socialization and whether we have the discipline to keep a schedule. What's making her want to do it?

We did half homeschool with our older one for a year and honestly it was a lot more work than either of us expected. Not saying don't do it, but I'd really recommend trying it for a semester first to see if it's actually feasible with your family's schedule.

Homeschooling can work but you lose some things school provides like peer interaction and structured environment. If faith education is the main goal, have you looked at Christian schools in your area?
