We were watching The Office last night and she's telling me about something from her work and I'm like yeah yeah totally listening and then she asks me a question and I have no idea what she said. Pretty sure I'm in trouble but at least Jim just did something funny on screen.
The Office is a total attention killer. That show just sucks you in. Maybe try watching something less engaging during work talk time? Or better yet, pause it.
This happens to me constantly and my wife has learned to just accept it. She gets her best advice from her friends now instead of me apparently.
Been there man. Sometimes you gotta just pause it and give her your full attention, then hit play when she's done. Saves you from the inevitable 'were you even listening' moment.
I zone out during shows all the time but then I get busted trying to comment on a plot point I completely missed. The Office is a dangerous choice for this because there's too much going on.
My daughter watches tea parties with me and I still manage to zone out sometimes. It happens to all of us, especially with shows we've already seen a million times.
