My 5yo is DEEP in a Bluey binge right now and look, I get it, it's wholesome and actually well-written compared to most kids' shows. But we're on episode 87 this week and I can feel my brain melting. I've watched the Squirrels episode so many times I'm pretty sure I could voice every character. Send help or earplugs.
The 'brain melting' feeling is real and valid. Bluey is well-written but that doesn't mean your kid should watch it on loop for 30 hours a week. Set a limit and stick to it - she'll adjust
This is the thing about Bluey though - because it IS actually good, other parents judge you less for letting them watch it, so it becomes default entertainment. But your brain still melts. Totally valid to just cap it at like 3 episodes a day
Try introducing a competing show she might like - honestly sometimes switching to something else for a week resets the obsession cycle. We broke a CoComelon spiral with Elinor Wonders Why and suddenly Bluey wasn't the only thing
lol the Bluey obsession phase is real. Our 5yo was the same way for like 3 months. It does eventually pass though - she moved on to something else and now Bluey is just background noise. Just gotta power through
Bluey is genuinely one of the better kids' shows so you can't really complain too hard, but yeah 87 episodes in a week is a LOT. Maybe set some actual limits? Like "Bluey is awesome but we're doing 2 episodes max after dinner"
I get the appeal for the writers - it's actually funny for adults unlike 90% of kids shows. But yeah, rotation it with other stuff or you'll lose your mind. We do Bluey 2x a day max and mix in other shows
Here's the thing - Bluey is actually well-made and has decent messages so you can feel okay about it even when you want to lose your mind. Could be watching way worse. That said yeah, episode limits are your friend here
The thing that helped us was realizing that even the good shows stop being good if it's all they do. Our rule became "one episode in the morning before school, one after dinner." Sounds arbitrary but it worked
87 episodes THIS WEEK? Dude set a screen time limit before you actually lose it. Your kid is gonna burn out on it too if they watch that much that fast
Bluey is legitimately good which makes it worse because you can't even hate-watch it. But 87 episodes in a week is insane lol, that's like 15+ hours. At some point you gotta just cap it even if she cries about it
Friendly reminder that 87 episodes is objectively a lot and you're not being mean by setting boundaries. Your 5yo doesn't need unlimited Bluey access just because the show is quality. Limit it and feel zero guilt
Funny thing is Bluey characters actually talk about moderation in some episodes. Might be worth watching one of those together and being like "hey remember when Bluey couldn't just watch TV forever?"
At least it's Bluey and not some other garbage. But yeah 87 episodes is insane lol. Your brain melting is your body telling you to implement some boundaries
