My 8yo has been watching these videos where people make slime for like 3 hours straight. Not gonna lie, I've gotten sucked in too. There's something weirdly satisfying about it. Wife thinks we're both losing it. Does anyone else have kids into this stuff or am I just getting old?
Oh dude, the slime thing is wild. My kids went through this phase too. I actually looked into it and apparently it's weirdly satisfying to watch because of the repetitive motions and ASMR stuff. 3 hours is definitely too long though. We had to set a hard limit to like 20 minutes a day and offer other tactile stuff instead.
Yeah this is peak kid internet weirdness. With four kids I've basically given up fighting the weird phases they go through online. Just make sure it's not messing with sleep or homework and honestly it could be worse.

My 8 year old is the same way! I bought her actual slime making supplies thinking maybe she'd get bored if she was actually making it instead of watching. Turns out she just watches videos about making slime now AND makes slime. So that backfired.
Screen time battles are real. The thing that helped us is finding replacement activities that feel similar. My kids like the slime videos because they're tactile and creative feeling. We started doing actual craft projects together on weekends and that took some of the appeal away from the endless scrolling.
