My in-laws got us one and it's been sitting in the box for like 3 weeks. Seems cool in theory - grow herbs inside year-round - but also seems like one more thing I'll neglect and kill. Is it actually low maintenance or will I be slowly murdering basil plants for months? Real owner experience needed because the marketing is obviously biased.
Real talk: it works great for herbs but don't expect full meals from it lol. We use ours for basil, lettuce, sometimes mint. Kids got to watch stuff grow which was cool for about a month then they forgot about it.
The seed pods are expensive but honestly not terrible if you use it. Check if there's a subscription thing or if you can buy the seeds separately somewhere cheaper. That's the main ongoing cost.
Just pull it out and set it up. Takes like 20 minutes. My wife was skeptical and same thing, sat in a box. We've had it for two years now and it's actually cool. Basil grows like crazy in there.

It's worth a shot since you already have it. Just be aware the light can be bright and the water pump makes a little noise, so maybe don't put it in a bedroom. Kitchen counter or dining room worked better for us.
