Looking to upgrade from my old beat up charcoal grill. I've got maybe 8x8 feet of space to work with behind the garage. Thinking about going gas for convenience but some of my buddies swear by pellet smokers. Anyone got a good recommendation that won't break the bank? Need something that'll last and cook decent burgers and ribs.
For 8x8 feet you're actually in a perfect sweet spot. I went with a compact Traeger and it's been a game changer for us. Takes up maybe 3 feet of space but handles everything we throw at it. Plus cleanup is way easier than charcoal which matters when you've got limited space and two kids running around.
Pellet grill all the way. I've got the Pit Boss Portable in my Denver backyard and it's incredible for the footprint. Can do smoking, grilling, everything. Only downside is it needs electricity but that's usually not a problem for small spaces.

Gas grill, 100%. I had the same size space in my first place and went with a small propane setup. No regrets. Charcoal is fun but with kids you want something you can fire up in 5 minutes and forget about while you're refereeing their chaos.
