Got tricked by my 5yo and honestly respect the move

My son told me he couldn't find his shoes this morning so we couldn't go to school. I tore the house apart looking for them while he acted all sad and helpful. Turns out he hid them in the garage because he "didn't want to go to school today." I was mad for like 30 seconds before I realized how creative and committed to the bit he was. We still went to school obviously but I couldn't stop laughing about it. That's my boy.

I would've been mad for 30 seconds then genuinely impressed. Kids who think that creatively usually do pretty well later. But yeah he still needs consequences for the lie.

I would've been furious too but yeah that's actually impressive problem-solving from a 5yo. He knew the outcome he wanted and executed a plan. Just... not a good plan.

Honestly just made him put the shoes on and go to school. He learned the lesson that hiding shoes doesn't work. Also learned he can't just decide not to go which was the actual point.

That's actually brilliant problem-solving on his part. He identified a barrier to his goal (going to school) and removed it. Punish him sure but also... respect the move lol.

Did you figure out WHY he didn't want to go to school? Sometimes the shoe-hiding is just the symptom of an actual problem (bullying, teacher issue, etc).
