My oldest just turned 4 and I keep seeing these tiny soccer camps for kids his age. Part of me wants to get him into it early but the other part thinks he should just be playing in the yard. Wife thinks I'm pushing too hard. What age did you guys start your kids in organized sports? Looking for some real feedback here not judgment.
I get the impatience, but at 4 they're still pretty wiggly for organized sports. That said, kicking a ball around in the yard is free and he'll learn just as much.
Four is not too early if he's interested. My boys started at 3 and 5 and they loved it, though the 3 year old was mostly running around having fun rather than actually playing soccer. Just make sure it's about him wanting to do it, not you pushing it.
We did a little soccer camp at that age and honestly it was more about the snack at the end than the actual soccer. Nothing wrong with trying it out, just keep expectations low on skill development.
We did soccer at 4 and honestly it was worth it just to get him running around with other kids and burning energy. Even if he never plays again at least he had fun and tried something new.
Not impatient. These camps are perfect for that age because they're low pressure. My kid tried one and it was mostly just kicking a ball around and getting snacks. Great way to see if he even enjoys it before committing to a team.
